Internet Banking Alert

Barclays Bank customers have been the target of a scam which in future could extend to customers of other on-line financial services.

Customers are receiving e-mail with a link to a bogus website, which looks authentic as it bears the Barclays logo.

They are are requested to visit this site and register their account and password details.

Please note that none of the legitimate financial organisations will never ask for your information in this way.

Only give personal data, including your credit card details, when you are sure you know to whom you are giving them.

There was cause for concern recently when somebody tried to book a ticket on line, and the site repeatedly displayed an error message after the credit card details were entered. If this should happen to you, please make a note of the URL (Uniform Resource Locator or Web address) which appears in your browser 'Address' bar as you could be connected to a bogus site with a similar URL. Be especially careful with lowercase L ( l ) & uppercase I ( I ) as they can look identical when displayed in certain character fonts. You can try this by typing something like 'lInks' into your browser 'Address' bar.

Using the Times font the number one (1) and the letter l look very similar (1l).
